God gave every green plant for food...

'Then God said, "I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air and all the creatures that move on the ground - everything that has the breath of life in it - I give every green plant for food." And it was so.
God saw all that He had made, and it was very good.'
The Book of Genesis Chapter 1, verses 29 to 31

The spirituality behind foods from the fields;

GENETICALLY MODIFIED FOODS
Genetically modified foods or biotech foods are foods derived from genetically modified organisms (GMO). Genetically modified organisms have had specific changes introduced into their DNA by genetic engineering techniques.

BT TOXINS AND UNIVERSITY OF SHERBROOKE HOSPITAL CENTRE
Concerns have been raised by a study carried out by independent doctors at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Sherbrooke Hospital Centre in Quebec, Canada, according to a report written by Sean Poulter (1).  According to the article, blood samples were taken from 30 pregnant women and 39 other women who were not having a baby. The doctors were looking for residues of pesticides associated with the cultivation of GM food. These included the so-called Bt toxins, which are implanted using GM techniques into corn and some other crops.

The results of the study are reported to have found traces of Bt toxin in the blood of 93 % of the pregnant mothers. It was also found in 80% of the umbilical cords.

In the non-pregnant group, traces were found in the blood of 69%. According to the report, it is thought the toxin is entering the human body resultant to eating milk, meat and eggs from farm livestock fed GM corn.   Poulter reports that the Canadian team told the scientific journal Reproductive Toxicology that the Bt toxin was clearly detectable and appears to cross the placenta to the foetus.

STUDY ON BEES BY JOHN MCDONALD IN PENNSYLVANIA
According to a report written by Patty Donovan (2), John McDonald, a beekeeper with a background in biology believes it may be possible that Cry1Ab may have an immuno-suppressive effect on bees, acting as a slow killer.

A STUDY ON BEES IN MEXICO
Donovan further tells us in the report that a study indicating that Bt may be contributing to the death of honey bees was undertaken in Mexico. The result showed that, when exposed to higher concentration of Cry1Ab in the study, feeding behaviour of the bees was affected. The bees spent longer ingesting the syrup which contained the Cry1Ab which could mean smaller amounts of pollen would be collected. The bees also had impaired learning performance. Honeybees normally do not continue responding to an odour when no food is present, but should be discouraged and seek other sources. The bees continued responding to the odour which again could affect pollen gathering efficiency.  Donovan reports that the study indicated that Bt could indirectly lead to colony death due to failure to collect enough food to sustain the hive.

GOD GAVE EVERY GREEN PLANT FOR FOOD...
We are familiar with green plants. The fortunate among us have seen crops of waving plants, sunflowers for oil; corn, maize and wheat for grains; vegetables and fruits for the table. It is the intrinsic right of every person - made in the image and likeness of God - to be able to freely take care of personal health, and above all, of the little baby being formed in the womb, precious to the Creator God (The Old Testament, Psalm 139, verse 13. 'For You created my inmost being; You knit me together in my mother's womb.')

THE UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS (3)
This wonderful Charter affirms the nobility and dignity of the human being. Enshrined in its enlightened articles is that everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and of his family, including food (Article 25 (1) ). Motherhood and childhood are entitled to special care and assistance (Article 25 (2). In the light of the considered and quantifiable results of the Canadian team, it would seem prudent and wise to listen to concerns of professionals and take into consideration the results of their findings. The unborn child of today - if cared for properly and nurtured - will bring joy to their parents, be upstanding and contributing citizens for tomorrow, and enjoy health diminishing economic need for medication and treatment.

Article 26 (3) highlights that parents have a prior right to choose the kind of education that shall be given to their children. The sanctity of the human family is thus upheld in the Charter. Each parent teaches their child about wise food choices, and the link between good food and good health. Wise food choices are made only with full knowledge; full knowledge of the source of food is thus interwoven with each person's rights.

With full knowledge, a choice can be made.
With full consent, an informed choice can be made.
God created us in freedom; The Universal Declaration of Human Rights affirms this freedom; let us then continue to uphold each person's intrinsic right to know all that affects his or her ability to make a fully informed and free choice.

This constitutes freedom, and affirms the spirituality behind the food in the fields with which God blessed us.
